THE ANIMALS

African Forest Elephant

African forest elephants or Loxodonta africana cyclotis are symbolic animals and hold great importance among certain African cultures. These elephants inhabit the Congo basin in central Africa and dwell near small towns and farms. According to the World Wildlife Organization, there are only 150,000 left in the wild. They are currently in the critically endangered category due to being victims of ivory poaching and rainforest deforestation.

Sumatran tiger

The Phanthren Tigris Sondaica is currently the most endangered tiger on the planet, in the critically endangered category. In an article from Discovery UK, they mentioned that these tigers are known to inhabit the islands of Sumatra. Scattered across the island from the south Bukit Barisan Selatan and the coastal forests of the northern mountains in the Gunung Leuser National Park, they are the last remaining tigers in Indonesia. The largest subpopulation on the island near the west end contains 190 individuals. As of 2024, there are fewer than 400 left in the wild.

Red Wolf

The Canis lupus, inhabit the Appalachian mountain range in North America. They have made a name for themselves as the most endangered wolf on the planet. The Fresno Chaffee Zoo stated that in 1966 the Endangered Species Preservation Act was passed and in 1967 these wolves were listed as threatened with extinction. They went extinct in the wild in 1980 they were moved into a capture breeding-release program and their population started to grow again. It is estimated that there are 17-19 in the wild as of 2023 and there are 235 in captivity.
